Who’s eligible for care through Michigan’s Home Help Program?
The Home Help Program through Michigan MDHHS provides Medicaid funds for eligible individuals needing assistance with daily activities.
You must meet the following criteria to be eligible:
Medicaid Beneficiary
You must be enrolled in Michigan Medicaid to qualify for the Home Help Program.
Need Assistance
A doctor must certify that you need assistance with activities of daily living.
Home Setting
You must live alone or with others in an independent living situation. Group homes, nursing facilities, and hospitals do not qualify.

How many hours of care can I receive?
The number of care hours you can receive is based on your individual needs – there is no set maximum. For clients with severe functional limitations requiring extensive care, Expanded Home Help Services (EHHS) can be authorized. This is available when hands-on care needs exceed 179.9 hours per month. EHHS must be approved by an adult services supervisor and/or the MDHHS Home Help Policy Section. Each client’s care hours are determined based on their specific situation and care requirements.
What services aren't covered?
The Home Help services don’t cover 24-hour-a-day home care, meal delivery, homemaker services unrelated to the care plan, home repairs, prompting or reminding someone to do a task, supervision, transportation, yard work, financial services or custodial care when that’s the only care you need.

The Home Help program is funded by Medicaid and costs nothing to you if you qualify.
How does insurance coverage work?
Not all types of medicaid support home help. Usually, straight medicaid is the best for coverage.
